I was recently tasked with creating a napping policy for our employees on 24/7 shift schedules. I'd really appreciate some pointers on where to begin.  Can anyone give me an idea of what to include in our napping policy?

  1. We developed a template for a napping/controlled rest policy and procedure based on guidance from safety and sleep experts and various industry policy writers. When our policy and procedure document is complete, it should easily satisfy our government regulations.

It is still in development, but the admin team at the Fatigue Managers Network agreed to publish the template in the resources section. The link will be posted in this forum soon.

  2. Just heard from the Fatigue Managers Network admin team…here is the link to our napping/controlled rest policy and procedure template….Napping/Controlled Rest

In case you are interested, here is a link to the page with a video on napping we sometimes use in our training on sleep optimization. It's called: National Napping Day-Here are the Benefits of a Quick Power Nap.

      1. Hey Nana_22, we are working on setting up a comprehensive fatigue reporting system, but we are no where near finished. I zipped up 3 docs that you might find helpful. They should be attached to this post. If you can't open the zip, let me know and I will ask the Forum admin to upload them to the resources area of FMN. We are also using some of the processes required by the DRPR for fitness for duty assessments in our fatigue reports: https://tc.canada.ca/en/rail-transportation/operating-federal-railway/railway-employee-work-rest-rules-medical-rules/duty-rest-period-rules-railway-operating-employees
